World premiere for the new smart electric drive at “Mondial de lAutomobile 2016” in Paris: With the smart electric drive as two-seater, four-seater and convertible, smart is electrifying all of its models. Urban mobility is more flexible, cleaner and quieter than ever.

Traditionally, the “Mondial de l’Automobile 2016” in Paris (October 1-16) is more about superficial aspects. On display: breathtaking studies, elegant designs and futuristic interiors.

This year, smart enhances the show of shiny shapes and crisp colors with impressive tailor made variants for all models. And with three extraordinary ideas that allow a taste of what electric mobility is going to be like in the coming decades: the agile smart fortwo electric drive, the spacious smart forfour electric drive and the smart fortwo cabrio.

“smart is going all in.”

“To us, the current e-revolution is no surprise”, said. Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG at the unveiling of the new models at the shared booth of Mercedes-Benz and smart. “smart has never been shy in any way, that´s why the brand started fully electric driving way back in 2007. And now smart is going all-in: These cars are one key aspect of Daimler’s long-term strategy of electric mobility and beyond.”

The driving performance of the new smart electric drive is optimized for fast and clean urban mobility: Its fully electric 60 kW engine offers extremely agile driving dynamics. All three models have a reach of 160 km (for a smart fortwo electric drive) that is perfect for urban traffic and commutes.

The new smart electric drive models also come with the new, powerful on-board charger that, when plugged into a wall box or public charging station, nearly cuts charging times in half.

electric green: color of the season

Regarding the colors and special features, the smart electric drive is extremely customizable. Take for instance the electric drive design package that features a finish of electric green for tridion cell and exterior mirror caps, a shade exclusively available for the electric-powered models.

The attending international press in Paris is on the edge of their seats: “In the new smart electric drive, I see the perfect city car and can’t wait taking a spin in it”, admits Jacques Deshaies of Canadian online magazine Guide Auto Web.

German automobile blogger Jens Stratmann of Rad-ab.com also has his money on the three new models: “They are silent yet exhilarating – ideal for those who strive for urban, locally emission-free and whisperingly quiet mobility.”

Paris is likely to see electric green becoming the color of the season in autumn. In any case, the shade transports an important message: Being en vogue also means preserving the climate and saving resources in the future. The new smart electric drive family will make this possible without compromising joy of driving. The smart electric drive will be available as smart fortwo and smart forfour starting March 2017, and as smart fortwo cabrio in early summer of 2017.
