This hand actually exists. It is the nonprofit organisation Budapest Szíve, or heart of Budapest. With the help of the Hungarian National Development agency and the EU, it is transforming the capital’s centre into something friendlier and greener – into an urban environment people like to spend time in.

Its most recent project was The New Main Street, which involved the refurbishment of several central squares and streets, including the installation of an impressive fountain in Szabadság square. Budapest Szíve’s longterm goal is the full pedestrianisation of the inner VI and VII districts.

This and more inspiring projects can be found in the print copy of A smart guide to Utopia or the ebook version.
