This means that children face learning difficulties when they start learning how to read. Dyslexia is less common in China than in the West. Because Chinese characters are mostly based on pictograms, they are much more distinct and therefore harder to mix up.

Based on this fact, Christian Boer created a new typeface called «Dyslexie». The characters are less similar than in other fonts, so dyslexic people can recognise them more easily. The University of Twente researched the typeface. One of their findings showed that people with dyslexia performed better than other readers on the EMT test with the «Dyslexie» font.

This indicates that «Dyslexie» reduces the number of reading errors.
