Installed next to a stairway at the newly renovated railway station Overvecht in the city of Utrecht, the slide offers commuters the opportunity to quickly reach the railway tracks when they’re in a hurry. But above all, the slide accelerates something else: fun.

Designed by Utrecht-based company HIK Ontwerpers, the slide was installed as the final piece of the renovation of the Overvecht railway station. The designers explained that it’s meant to be a friendly gesture to the commuters, and that this playful urban intervention can have a general positive effect on a disadvantaged neighbourhood like Overvecht—which is exactly what happened.
