The limited smart fortwo edition MOSCOT unites the worlds of car design and eyewear in a beautifully designed turbo-powered cabriolet.
If you are going to improve an already outstanding urban car, it is a good idea to talk to people who are as obsessed with the needs of the city dweller as you are. So, when smart were looking for collaborators to mark the finale of the current smart cabrio series, the brand made a beeline for legendary New York eyewear makers MOSCOT.
MOSCOT, a brand that started out on Orchard Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side exactly 100 years ago, was only too happy to come on board. It, like smart, shares an obsession with using design to improve urban living in a sustainable and responsible way. The result of this transatlantic cooperation: the smart fortwo edition MOSCOT, a limited edition of just 100 vehicles.
Eye-catching design in glossy black and matte yellow
Of course, every story about this car must begin with the aesthetics: The combination of deep, glossy black body panels and a matte-yellow tridion safety cell with a matte-black accent stripe give it a proudly urban feel. The door mirrors boast the same color scheme, while the BRABUS Monoblock VII alloy wheels are painted glossy black, embellished with yellow rings on the rim flange.
The interior is a place of refuge – and a suitably stylish one at that. Seats, knee pad, instrument cluster, door paneling, and door pockets all come in black leather, offset by yellow leather inserts on the sides of the seats and knee pad. There is contrasting top stitching on the three-spoke, leather sports steering wheel as well as yellow rings on the shift lever knob and dashboard instruments – you may find yourself never wanting to leave.
“Fashion product design and car design are very similar as both are essential and technical but also visually sensitive to the consumer,” says Zack Moscot, Chief Eyewear Designer at his family’s company. “What one wears and what one drives is an expression of individuality and taste.”
As a perfect complement to the car, MOSCOT came up with the LEMTOSH smart eyeglasses in matching colors as well as the MOSCOT smart Drive Package featuring three clip-on sun lenses for perfect vision on the road in all conditions.
“The smart fortwo edition MOSCOT and the LEMTOSH smart eyeglasses look great”, says Dr. Annette Winkler, head of smart. “I’m also particularly delighted by the way they combine to showcase the urban lifestyle and our smart attitude to perfection.”
Turbo-power and great road-holding in one incredible package
The black and yellow color scheme is backed by an engineering prowess that makes the car ideal for the time-pressed commuter who wants to get about quickly without impacting on other road users.
Based on the smart BRABUS, the super-tuned edition that brings a sporting sensibility to the smart range, the new smart fortwo MOSCOT boasts a 75kw BRABUS turbo engine and a sports suspension that lowers the vehicle by 10 mm. The automated five-speed manual transmission with kick-down function and sporty tuning add to the supercharged feel.
And when you want to let the world into the car (and trust us, you will), the tritop fabric soft top comes with an electric system for fully automatic operation and has a rear window made of glass. Sunny days are going to be a lot of fun. And for the cloudy ones, the smart fortwo edition MOSCOT delivers a shot of color that promises to keep the gloom at bay.
