The tradition of counting down the days until Christmas dates back to the 19th century. And though it is culturally associated with eager children, smart is helping introduce this tradition to a broader audience. Each day from the 1st through the 24th of December, the Taste my smart advent calendar will be presenting one Christmas dish inspired by the smart fortwo’s unique silhouette. Complete with mouth-watering recipes and beautiful pictures, the advent calendar encourages readers to start their festive cooking and fuels the anticipation for the holiday season.
Together, a foodstylist, a cook, a food photographer and an editorial team created this inimitable advent calendar in one communal effort. Researching Christmas recipes from around the globe was fun, but deciding on just 24 was pretty tough. Pelmeni from Russia, Stollen from Germany and Spekulatius from the Netherlands were among the final selection.
Fresh, organic ingredients were piling up in the studio when the shoot began. Cook Jürgen Zimmerstädt turned them into the 24 traditional dishes one after another and styled them in the shape of the smart fortwo. Then, after food photographer René Riis got his winning shots, the team was finally able to taste the beautiful creations.
Instead of throwing the food away, everyone enjoyed a wonderful dinner. It was just like an early Christmas!
