I shot this distinctive and exemplary photo near the Kurskaya railway station. The picture shows workers clearing away the rubble and ruins of a burnt-out building – perhaps a cafe, store, or private home. This is no battlefield documentation, no shot of Second World War devastation, but the look of modern-day Moscow. I do not know if this was a case of arson or accident. I can only imagine how it happened. But it does not matter, really. What is important is the related emotion, transported by this photo; the state of life in today’s Moscow.
