The latest arrival and addition to the smart family, the forfour is far more than your average four-seater: smart by nature, the compact champion is the perfect choice for anyone with a slightly larger household. A mere 3.49 m long, the nimble all-rounder offers enough room for your friends and family, yet easily nips through city traffic thanks to its smart DNA.
Just like the fortwo, the forfour exhibits a more confident stance at 1.66 m (width) with identical short front and rear overhangs and the same impressive turn radius of just 8.65 m. Small, smart, and agile, the forfour also shares engines with a new Renault model and comes with smart’s first fully manual transmission or an optional dual-clutch gearbox (available from 2015).
Yet despite these impressive stats under the hood, the subcompact four-seater does not stint on looks: Think design with a capital D including signature smart features like the tridion safety cell and characteristic hexagonal grill. A sleek juxtaposition of novel details and past concept car highlights (think FourJoy and ForStars), the updated model sports a young and fresh look that does the line proud.
With space at a premium, smart storage options provide welcome solutions: When all seats are folded down, the forfour offers up to 975 liters of storage space. But that’s not all – drivers are free to fold and ‘sink’ the seats twelve centimeters into the floor for even easier access and additional space. Need any further convincing? The back doors open up to 85 degrees – an angle unheard of in the car industry and ideal for speedy and comfortable loading and unloading.
